Provenance:
According to the Marc catalogue raisonné compiled by Annegret Hoberg and Isabelle Jansen, the original height of the present work was circa 147.5cm. It appears that the artist cropped the top section of the canvas. In a recent communication with Sotheby’s, Annegret Hoberg has confirmed that the statement printed in the catalogue raisonné that this work was ‘cut into several pieces by the artist, reassembled ca. 1937 and completed’ is erroneous.
