A VERY LARGE SIGNED AND DATED ICON SHOWING THE FEODOROVSKAYA MOTHER OF GOD Russian, Martinian Feodotov Galaev, dated 1815 Tempera on wood panel. The border and haloes made of gold. Portrayed half-length, in three-quarter view, the Mother of God facing the onlooker, with her right hand supporting the Child, embracing and bringing him closer to her, leaning forward to touch his face, him in response stretching his neck in order to reach his Mother's cheek. The features accentuated through delicate white brushstrokes, the kekryphalos of the Mother of God rendered in saturated blue, her maphorion in red with geometrically shaped folds, embellished with a golden hem and fringes. Christ's green himation and orange chiton decorated with intense chrysography. Signed in Cyrillic and dated lower right.
