GROUP OF VISHNU BRONZE INDIA 15TH CENTURY
Dimensions: Height 10 cm to 12,7 cm Wide 5 cm Depth 4,2 cm
Weight: 526 grams
A group of three standing figures, the taller central deity flanked by two smaller female attendants, each raised on an individual circular pedestal. The principal figure wears a high crown, layered jewellery and a closely pleated lower garment; four arms extend in carefully differentiated gestures and hold small attributes. The accompanying figures repeat the tall headdress and ornamented dress on a more slender scale, giving the ensemble a balanced, almost architectural arrangement.
The grouping corresponds to the devotional iconography of Vishnu with his consorts, often identified as Sri Devi and Bhu Devi. Together they express the sustaining and auspicious dimensions of the deity's role in Hindu belief. The difference in scale between the central figure and the attendants establishes a clear hierarchy while preserving the coherence of the triad.
The warm brown surfaces, with darker recesses and isolated greenish deposits, allow the modelling of jewellery and drapery to remain legible. The three independent bases also make it possible to appreciate each figure individually without losing the significance of the group.
