GROßE FIGURENGRUPPE EINES PAARES IN RENAISSANCETRACHT
Wohl Italien, Ende 19. / Anfang 20.
| LARGE FIGURAL GROUP OF A COUPLE IN RENAISSANCE ATTIRE
Probably Italy, late 19th / early 20th century, earthenware or fine majolica, glazed in ivory color. On a high, profiled and waisted, scrolled base stands an elegantly dressed couple in historicizing garments of the 16th century. The cavalier, wearing a slashed doublet, puffed breeches, and a heavy fur-trimmed cloak, gallantly offers his hand to a lady. She wears a richly decorated dress with characteristic puffed sleeves, an ornate bonnet, and long hair skillfully braided into two plaits reaching down to her buttocks. The design stylistically recalls literary paired representations of Historicism such as Faust and Gretchen. On the underside, inside the hollow body, marked with an incised number. On the underside, a fine firing crack in the bridge of the base caused during manufacture, minimal signs of age and use, otherwise in good, undamaged condition. Dimensions: H: 48 cm. SHIPPING TO THE USA MUST BE ARRANGED BY THE BUYER!
