GUICCIARDINI, Francesco - Della istoria d'Italia. Venice: Giambattista Pasquali, 1738-39. A fresh copy complete with the author's life edited by Domenico Maria Manni which is often missing. Morazzoni 112: "Worthy of praise is certainly the edition of the Istoria d'Italia published in folio in 1738, decorated with exquisite delicacy by Antonio Visentini". 2 volumes, folio (436 x 302mm). Half-titles, titles printed in red and black with engraved vignette, portrait of Guicciardini after Giovanni Domenico Ferretti and engraved by Jean Michel Liotard, genealogical tree of the Guicciardini family, 28 initials, 28 small headpieaces with gracious views of Venice and 19 tailpieces finely engraved by Visentini (some soiling and staining, occasional browning and a few marginal repaired tears). Contemporary calf, spines decorated in gilt (new endpapers, restorations and some general wear). Provenance: Giuseppe Albrisi (ownership inscription). (2)
