4:o. 290 x 185 mm. Missing the title sheet of the Old Testament and 5 other leaves (D6, GG3, PpP6 (GT); Dd6 and Ee4 (NT)). Mended hard worn contemporary leather strap. Consistently mottled and with marginal notes and underlines. Rips and paper cuts. Major paper losses e. o. m. p. XXX in the Old Testament and at the end of the New Testament (fol. a. F5, R4-5 and Dd4). Ownership and other notes on the inside pages of the cover.

Gustav Vasa had this beautiful Bible printed under the supervision of the reformers Olaus Petri and Laurentius Petri, it was the first complete Bible to be published in the Swedish language. The printer Richolff was brought from Lübeck and he also brought several blocks of wood, including from Wittenberg. Among the illustrations are seven by Lucas Cranach the Elder and three by Georg Lemberger.Show more
