GUSTAVE COURBET | CHÂTEAU DE CHILLON

[ translate ]

Property from the Collection of J.E. Safra
GUSTAVE COURBET
French
1819 - 1877
CHÂTEAU DE CHILLON

signed G. Courbet (lower right)
oil on canvas
27¼ by 37¾ in.
69.5 by 95.8 cm

Condition Report:
The following condition report was kindly provided by Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.:

This work has been lined with wax as an adhesive. The lining is supporting the paint layer, and the
original texture of the paint does not appear to have been affected by the lining. There are a few isolated retouches in the lake in the lower right, with a group beneath—but not interfering with—the signature. There are a few isolated retouches in the sky, with a slight concentration on the upper right edge and on the top edge. There is a horizontal line of restorations in the dark peaked rooftop furthest to the left, and a small restoration in the tree trunk to the left of the chateau. There are a few other spots of restoration in the rocks at the bottom of the trees in the center of the left side. There is one other isolated retouching in the water directly below the right wall of the chateau.

The work should be hung as is.
