GUSTAVE COURBET | PORTRAIT OF MATHILDE CUOQ
Property from the Collection of Mr. Stan Battat
GUSTAVE COURBET
French
1819 - 1877
PORTRAIT OF MATHILDE CUOQ
signed G. Courbet (lower left)
oil on paper laid down on canvas
18¾ by 15⅛ in.
47.6 by 38.4 cm
Condition Report:
Not examined out of the frame. Oil on paper laid down on canvas. The paper is slightly creased in some areas, including the figure's face. The work has a heavy varnish. The surface presents well, aside from surface dirt and dust; widely patterned but stable craquelure; a tiny barely perceptible pin dot loss above the figure's head; and a few tiny, very minor dents in the background at upper right. Under UV: heavy varnish fluoresces green, which impedes an accurate review of the surface.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.
