GUSTAVE LOISEAU (FRENCH, 1865-35), OIL ON CANVAS, 1918, H 25.75", L 32", "RIVIERE DE NORMANDIE" River landscape signed lower left. Framed. From the Collection of Mr. Walter and Mrs. Edith Scotten, Detroit, Michigan. Mr. Scotten was a principal stockholder and officer of the Scotten-Dillon Co. Detroit tobacco manufacturers. Scotten-Dillon produced "Yankee Boy Tobacco". Believed to be purchased in Paris after 1920. By descent to her son. Frame measures H 32" x L 38". Dated 1918 on the verso of the canvas. Unidentified original paper label with 11509, the artist's name, the title and the date of 1918 is on verso of the center stretcher bar along with another modern sticker reading 3880 x 99 (see photo details). Dimensions: Condition Report: Very nice looking. As viewed under UV light in the unopened frame: blacklight's clean; has overall craquelure (including from the center stretcher bar) with slight instability of the paint just starting to develop; not lined or patched; period or original frame needs cleaning and shows its age. rf, 2-12-2020)
