Kloss copy of the second edition of Gaguin's important chronicle of French history. The first edition was published by Pierre Le Dru in "1499" (actually 1495); Gaguin, who had complained of the many printing errors in the first edition, remained involved with the production of the subsequent editions, for each of which he brought his chronicle up to date. Chancery folio (280 x 197mm). 113 leaves (of 114, without final blank). Title page printed in black and red. Woodcut printer’s device, woodcut initials (some leaves toned with spotting around the edges, some dampstaining, one blank corner repaired). Modern brown morocco (superficial wear at upper joint). Provenance: George Kloss (1787-1854, bibliographer; his sale, Sotheby’s, 7 May 1835, lot 1659) – acquired from Lathrop C. Harper, Inc, 30 June 1955.
