The design for the present lot appears to have been based on an illustration completed by the artist for a poem by Fausto Salvatori (Italian, 1870-1929) entitled "Tristezza- O Furia!", published in the magazine Fiammetta in 1896.
Condition report:
Professional restoration to lower third of body to stabilize in-body cracks, with minimal inpainting at crack lines, now stabilized. No breaks or repairs to handles. Formerlly drilled as a lamp. Drill hole present, going through and partially obscuring DACF raised mark. Triangular section of fill to loss at base measuring approx. 4 x 2 1/2 in. with associated, small section of filled loss measuring approx. 3 in. along foot extending approx. 1 1/4 in. triangularly into small section of lower body with associated inpainting to lower area of painted decoration. 2" vertical, darkened hairline extending from rim. Small, filled rim chip. Age-appropriate shelf wear to foot. Crack lines with associated small losses visible to interior.
