Games table - Walnut

Play/work table with opening top in walnut wood and top part in briar veneer, England, second half of the 19th century.

The table has a richly decorated structure and a top that can be rotated and opened like a book to display a backgammon, cribbage and chess/checkers board.

The coffee table, when closed, is a perfect piece of furniture next to a sofa or an armchair and has two comfortable drawers: a smaller one to hold game pieces, but also suitable as a jewelery box or to store sewing and embroidery material , and a second, larger and deeper drawer, designed to hold knitting, balls of wool and the like.

Measurements: with the top closed the table measures 74 x 41 x 54 cm; when open it measures 74 x 82. 5 x 54 cm.

Storage conditions: complete in its parts and ready to be used as presented, the table shows some signs of use (stains) on the top, some small defects in the veneer. One of the legs has been restored in the past.
