Description
This horizontal handscroll features wild cursive script by Gao Ershi, completed in one continuous flow. The brushwork rises and falls dramatically with varied line thickness, interweaving dry, wet, dark and pale ink tones. Linked strokes connect characters, maintaining unbroken momentum throughout the scroll. Characters are boldly structured with irregular size and slant; the composition creates powerful rhythm through dense and sparse arrangement. Gao Ershi studied the calligraphy of Wang Xizhi, Wang Xianzhi and Huaisu, incorporating features of chapter cursive. His cursive style is powerful and independent. This scroll is fluid and unrestrained with strong rhythmic vitality, a fine example of his cursive calligraphy.
