The Ambiani, a Celtic-speaking Belgic people who lived near modern day Amiens, France, are mentioned in Julius Caesar's "De Bello Gaulico", but are otherwise little known. Based on their coinage, they seem to have been excellent miners with access to a great deal of gold. The animal depicted on the back of this coin is usually interpreted as a horse but may instead be Cernunnos, a Celtic horned god.
