"Gem" Ammonite Fossil Placenticeras intercalare Late Cretaceous Bearpaw Formation Alberta, Canada "Gem" Ammonites are some of the most beautiful of the ancient cephalopod variety, exhibiting specially preserved shells that have fossilized into Ammolite, which is both a fossil and a gemstone. The vivid and vibrant material dating to the Late Cretaceous is visually surreal. This exquisite specimen representing a rare and coveted intercalare species of the Placenticeras genus, is extremely colorful on both sides and is nicely inflated. Measuring nearly 6 inches (15 cm) at its maximum diameter, this fossil is superlative on a number of counts, but it really is the brilliant hues of red, gold, and green, as well as rare blue and purple popping off the slick exterior surface of the Ammonite that makes this so collectible and highly valuable. The piece is presented with a wooden display stand and comes with a Korite Certificate of Authenticity. Measurements: 5.87 x 4.78 x 1.62 inches (14.92 x 12.13 x 4.12 cm) HID09710052018 © 2022 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
