Genje
Second half 19th century, 234 x 110 cm, Central Caucasus
A Genje in magnificent colours. The hexagonal lattice design in the red field contains large eight-pointed stars arranged into steep colour diagonals. This composition is often seen in antique Genje rugs, usually on a blue or yellow and less frequently on a red or white ground. The horizontal stripe pattern of the lattice lines, blue and yellow in this case, is a typical feature. The white main border is decorated with stepped polygons surrounded by diamonds. – Very good condition except for minor repiled sections, a high pile. Original selvedges, both ends minimally reduced.
