Condition: Good condition. In the lower third deep tear of the wood from the left. Restored and strengthened and slightly retouched. Overall slightly soiled with fine hairline cracks in the printing plate and painting layer. Along the edges weak rubbing and discoloration.
Description: The dust thrown up by the stomping horses slightly clouds the view. A fine haze lies over the quarrelling horsemen. The small group of cuirassiers and light cavalry has detached itself from the core of the battlefield and seems to be fighting in relative solitude in this impressive battle picture. The barren landscape and the threatening cloud cover form a gloomy background for the fighters in the foreground. Especially the white horse of the harnessed rider as well as the fluttering red cloth catch the eye of the viewer. An artistically staged battle scene, which shows the horrors of the raging war in a pointed and almost isolated way on a small part of the events.
Keywords: Baroque, Military, Battle, Battle Scene, Rider, Soldier, Death, Horses, Armour, Storm
