Letter to George His, in part: "I am convinced we must do everything we can to strengthen the Republican Party and to help elect good candidates in 1978. This promises to be a good year for Republicans in Texas and, as I told you at the Light's, I plan to spend a lot of of time this year helping candidates in Texas and around the country…I know the road ahead for our party is not easy, but I think this is the year we must all be involved."
