GREAT BRITAIN. George II, 1727-60.
Gold Guinea, 1759. London.
Obv: GEORGIUS·II· DEI·GRATIA, older laureate head left, legend around. Rev: Crowned quartered shield of arms, legend around M·B·F·ET·H·REX·F·D·B·ET·L·D·S·R·I·A·T·ET·E·17 59· Engraved by John Croker.

Struck late in George II’s reign, this Guinea dates from a significant year in the Seven Years’ War. British and allied victories at Minden and Quebec in 1759 strengthened Britain’s position in Europe and North America, giving the date a historical appeal beyond the coin itself.

The king’s older laureate portrait is paired with the crowned shield of the royal arms, surrounded by Latin titles reflecting the monarchy’s British and Hanoverian possessions. Valued at twenty-one shillings, the Guinea was a principal gold denomination of eighteenth-century Britain.

Graded NGC MS62, the present coin survives in Mint State and is one of four examples recorded at this grade, with only three certified finer, offering collectors an opportunity to acquire a notable example of George II from a memorable year in his reign.
