[ translate ]

INDIA. George V, 1910-36.
Gold Sovereign, 1918 I. Bombay.

The sole date of the historic Bombay Sovereign issue, the 1918 coin occupies a unique place in the branch-mint series. Established as a wartime measure within the existing Bombay Mint, the Royal Mint’s Indian branch produced over a million Sovereigns bearing the small I mintmark before closing the following year. This brief episode gives the issue particular appeal to collectors assembling a complete collection of Sovereign mintmarks.

Graded PCGS MS64, the present example is a fitting addition to a collection of imperial gold or British Indian coinage.
