[ translate ]

AUSTRALIA. George V, 1910-36.
Gold Sovereign, 1922 S. Sydney.
Bare head left, B.M. on truncation; GEORGIVS V D. G. BRITT: OMN: REX F. D. IND: IMP:. / St George on horseback slaying the dragon right; mintmark S in groundline; date and B.P. in exergue. Edge milled.

Struck to a comparatively modest mintage of 578,000, the 1922S Sovereign belongs to the closing years of production at the Sydney Mint, which ceased striking sovereigns in 1926. High-grade survivors of this date remain particularly elusive as significant quantities of Australian gold coins were subsequently withdrawn and melted.

Graded PCGS MS64, the present coin is one of only two examples certified at this level, with none graded finer. An equal-finest example of a scarce late Sydney issue and a highly desirable addition to an advanced collection of Australian sovereigns.

In secure plastic holder, graded PCGS MS64 , certification number 50931619.

PCGS population in this grade: 2, equal-finest graded.
Reference: S-4003; Marsh-282; McD-270
