This 1928 Pretoria Sovereign is distinguished by an obverse retained lamination error, where a layer of metal has partially separated from the surface but remains attached to the coin. Such flaws arise from weaknesses within the metal of the blank and give the piece an individual character beyond its date and mintmark.

Certified NGC Mint Error MS63, the present coin combines this unusual production flaw with Mint State preservation. An appealing addition to a collection of sovereign errors or South African gold.
