This selection provides us with a look at "Washington the man" instead of "Washington the stone statue". The collection of writings inside this volume span much of George Washington's life and include both public papers such as his inaugural speeches and his orders to the army, but it also includes personal writings such as letters home to his wife during the war. The personal writings are extremely interesting; we get a look at Washington's frustrations and self-doubt that we never see in history books.
