Georges Braque, Le Nid vert

[ translate ]

John Richardson: A Scholar Collects
Georges Braque
1882 - 1963
Le Nid vert

Signed G Braque (lower right)
Watercolor, brush and ink and pencil on paper mounted on board
9 by 12 in. (22.9 by 30.5 cm)
Framed: 12 3/4 by 15 3/4 in. (32.4 by 40 cm)
Executed circa 1950-58.

Condition Report:
The work is in very good condition. The work has been executed on a sheet of cream wove paper measuring 6 by 8 3/4 inches, which is unevenly cut and mounted to a board. The board is sound. On the verso there is a newspaper clipping adhered to the board, with "Cooper" inscribed in pencil. There are some minor losses and wear to the ink in the extreme corners of the board, most notably in the lower left and upper right. There is a very faint line in the ink running around the perimeter of the board, likely due to a previous mounting.

Provenance:
Douglas Cooper, United Kingdom (probably acquired from the artist and sold: Christie's, London, November 29, 1988, lot 510)
Private Collection, Europe (acquired at the above sale and sold: Sotheby's, London, February 6, 2008, lot 203)
Acquired at the above sale
