Georges Braque Welcomes French Literary Critic to his Studio
A letter and original transmittal envelope entirely engrossed by French artist Georges Braque (1882-1963), both displayed on a white mat. Both pieces are archivally mounted but could easily be removed. The letter dated August 28, 1959 and postmarked from Varengeville-sur-Mer in Normandy, France is signed "G Braque" at lower right. The letter has expected paper folds, and a faint paper clip impression at upper left

the envelope bearing a cancelled stamp and three philatelic markings has several paperclip impressions, one slightly rusted. Else near fine, and ready to hang--all you need is the frame. Overall the display measures 10.25" x 13."
Braque extended an invitation to Maurice d'Hartoy aka Mauritius-Lucien Hanot (1892-1981), a French literary critic and writer. Translated in full, with untouched punctuation:
"Friday 28 August 1959.
Monsieur.
I will be at my studio Monday (31 August) at 4 pm. If this day is convenient for you I would be happy to receive you then.
Receive Monsieur my distinguished salutations
G Braque."
Georges Braque, the famous Cubist artist, would be buried in Varengeville-sur-Mer upon his death just four years later, in 1963.
