Uncommon oversized 1974 Hallmark White House Christmas gift card bearing an embossed presidential seal, measuring 18 x 14.75 closed, with inside bearing a color print of George Durrie’s 1858 painting entitled ‘New England Snow Scene,' signed in the lower border next to a preprinted holiday greeting in blue felt tip, "Gerald R. Ford.” In fine condition. Accompanied by the original White House envelope, with label issued to Margaret Patterson, the wife of former Secretary of War Robert P. Patterson. For their first holiday season at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, the Fords selected a George Henry Durrie painting to be used as the centerpiece of their White House Christmas cards, ordering 5,000 of these Hallmark prints to be given out to staff and other VIPs. The original artwork, ‘New England Snow Scene,’ had been acquired during Nixon’s presidency and hung on the second floor of the White House. These very rare cards were given to staff members and VIPs.
