After training at the Hague Drawing Academy around the turn of the century, Gerard Delfgaauw worked in a naturalistic-impressionist style. He lived and worked in Rijswijk. He painted many landscapes and cityscapes (including Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Dordrecht and Delft) . His work includes a series of dynamic Rotterdam harbor views, including De Nieuw Amsterdam and the Statendam moored on the Wilhelminakade. The work of this impressionist artist is included in the collection of various museums, including those in Rijswijk and Dordrecht. With endearing colors and a loose brushstroke, Delfgaauw knows how to invite the viewer to enter his nostalgic landscapes.
