German 1938 Edition of "Mein Kampf" by Adolf Hitler, Zentralverlag der NSDAP

[ translate ]

A cloth-bound copy of Mein Kampf by Adolf Hitler, combined single-volume edition ("Zwei Baende in einem Band, Ungekuerzte Ausgabe"), printing 349.-351. Auflage, dated 1938 and published by Zentralverlag der NSDAP, Frz. Eher Nachf., Muenchen. The spine carries the author's name and title in gilt lettering, and the front board bears a stylized eagle-and-wreath emblem in gilt. The title page is faced by a printed portrait plate with a facsimile signature reading "Adolf Hitler" beneath it.

First published in two volumes in 1925 and 1926, Mein Kampf was issued by the NSDAP's own press in a great many printings through the 1930s and early 1940s, with combined single-volume "Volksausgabe" and standard trade editions such as this one produced in large numbers as party literature.

Mein Kampf was written by Adolf Hitler during and after his imprisonment following the failed Munich Putsch of 1923, setting out his political ideology, antisemitic worldview, and territorial ambitions. Zentralverlag der NSDAP, Franz Eher Nachfolger, served as the party's official publishing house in Munich, and after 1933 the book's distribution was actively promoted by the state, with copies routinely presented to newlyweds and soldiers. The high print run number on this 1938 edition reflects the scale of its mass production during the Nazi era, when the book became one of the most widely printed and circulated texts in Germany.
