German Polychrome-Decorated Iron Lockbox

Probably 17th century. The iron-bound hinged lid decorated with florette fasteners, opening to an elaborate lock mechanism on the interior of the lid. The lower box portion, with serpentine wrought-iron corner and center mounts, painted with two figures on the front, the reverse and sides painted with flowers, each end with wrought-iron-mounted oval handles.
