German States, Nuremberg 1/2 Thaler Klippe 1650; struck in silver, 15.66g, 38mm x 37.5mm, obv. outside legend: IMPER FERDINANDO III P F AUGUSTO interior legend in 7 lines: GEDACHTNVS / DES FRIEDEN / VOLLZIEHVNGS / SCHLVSS / IN NVRNBERG / 1650./ 16 IVNII, three coats of arms with branches to side, roses in each corner, legend and date inside; rev. MAGNAS FERTE DEO GRATES PRO PACERE LATA, hand of God with laurel wreath over two hands coming from a globe, roses in each corner (Erlanger 529) faint traces of possible ex-mount on obv. and rev. at 12 o'clock, minor scuff to reverse right edge o/wise nicely toned and near extremely fine The imagery on this coin commemorates the Peace of Westphalia signed in 1648 which ended the Thirty Years War. The smaller 1/4-thaler version of these coins is more common, this half-thaler version being scarce.
