Sinologist Karl Himly was originally commissioned to translate the Chinese manuscripts found in Lou-Lan and examine what Hedin brought with him from his second excursion in 1899-1902. After his death, the Leipzig sinologist and professor of East Asian languages ??August Conrady took over this work.
