German school; 17th century

[ translate ]

German school, after DURERO; XVII century.
"Jesus among the doctors".
Bronze.
It has a frame of later period.
Measurements. 49 x 66,5 cm; 61 x 77,5 cm (frame).
This bronze relief represents the famous scene painted by Dürer on his second trip to Venice. The original painting entitled "Jesus among the shepherds" currently belongs to the collection of the Thyssen Bornemisza Museum. The last plane of the piece has been worked with sculptural relief modeling already used by the Romans, which consists of proportionally reducing the bulk of the relief according to the depth to be represented. To give the viewer the illusion of depth, the gradual decrease in the depth of the thickness is complemented by the rigorous application of the laws of perspective, which enhances the visual effect.
Albrecht Dürer is the most famous artist of the German Renaissance, known for his paintings, drawings, engravings and theoretical writings on art, which exerted a profound influence on 16th century artists both in his own country and in the Netherlands, thus being one of the main introducers of the Italian Renaissance in Central Europe. The son of a goldsmith, Dürer was trained in the late Gothic tradition and that of the Flemish Primitives. He began his career as an engraver and portrait painter, and in 1494 he made his first trip to Italy. He returned and settled in Nuremberg, where he produced a large number of engravings that increased his fame, including the series of the "Apocalypse", "Samson defeating the lion" and others. These works demonstrate not only his great technical mastery, but also his knowledge of the Roman treatise Vitruvius, and a brilliant ability to incorporate details of nature in works that reflect the environment with great realism. He traveled to Italy again between 1505 and 1507, and in Venice he met the master Giovanni Bellini and other artists. On his return to Nuremberg, he began a second period of enormous artistic production with works such as the altarpiece for the Dominican church in Frankfurt am Main, large series of engravings, etc. Dürer is currently represented in the most important art galleries around the world, such as the Prado Museum, the British Museum, the Louvre, the Alte Pinakothek in Munich, the Uffizi in Florence and many others.
