The Property of a Lady

Giacomo Francesco Cipper, called Il Todescini
Feldrich 1664–1736 Milan
A peasant woman holding a duck

oil on canvas
unframed: 72.5 x 58.3 cm.; 28½ x 23 in.
framed: 96.5 x 85.5 cm.; 38 x 33⅝ in.

Condition Report:
The canvas has been lined and is providing a stable support to the paint surface. There appears to be extensions to the canvas along the extremities of the left and right edges resulting in and uneven surface in these particular areas and in some instances a split to the surface. The varnish has yellowed but overall the work presents well and is ready to hang. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals a layer of opaque varnish and areas of retouching to the woman's right sleeve, along the bottom edge, the ducks wing and the upper edge. Small touches to the woman's hair and a small spot above her lip.

Provenance:
Anonymous sale, Vienna, Dorotheum, 23 November 1936, lot 8;

With Galerie Sanct Lucas, Vienna, by May 1937, no. 27;

From whom acquired by Eugen Frisch (d. 1972), Austria, by 1937;

Thence by descent to his granddaughter, the present owner.
