Gian Francesco Costa - Veduta del palazzo del N. H. Valmarana
\Artist: Gian Francesco Costa
Technique: Etching\Signature: Plate signed
Original strong water etching, in the second state out of three. Under the lower marginal line, in the center, title and Roman numeral XXVIII, on the right the author's indication. The work is taken from a famous collection of 140 tables divided into two volumes, which is the most demanding undertaking of the Venetian painter, set designer and engraver G. F. Costa. The tomes came out in first edition, respectively, in 1750 and in 1756; the subsequent reprints are not, however, datable with exactness. The author in the "Delicie", engraved on his own design, describes with topographical precision and landscape cut, the country houses of the Venetian aristocracy and bourgeoisie who had a particular passion for "living in the villa", in fact they have been immortalized by playwright Carlo Goldoni, during the same years in which Costa worked, in the famous trilogy "of the holiday". A shy sense of atmospheric vibration animates the image; this is a faint reflection of the views etched by the greatest and most famous Venetian artists such as Luca Carlevarijs, Antonio Canal known as Canaletto and Michele Marieschi. Exemplary in excellent state of conservation, with full margins.
