Gijsbertus Jan Sijthoff was born in Delft on 6th August 1867 and he passed away in Laren (NH) on 14th October 1949. He was a student of the Academie van Beeldende Kunsten in The Hague, after which he was taught by B. J. Blommers. Sijthoff painted, made watercolours, drew and lithographed portraits, interiors and exteriors, city views and landscapes. He lived and worked in Scheveningen, Rijswijk, Delft, Heeze, Antwerp and Bruges and finally in Laren. He was a member of 'St. Lucas' and 'Pulchri', the Nederlandse Kunstkring and the association of B. K. 'Laren-Blaricum'. He taught his wife Johanna Bastiana van Rijswijk, A. F. A. M. Hiel and Maria Ch. J. Sterre de Jong. The offered painting shows interior with a mother and child. The work is framed in a handmade, bronze/gold-coloured frame with inlay. The work is signed on the bottom right. The painting is in good condition. Dimensions image: 58 x 48 cm. Provenance: from a private collection. Viewing of the lot is of course possible.
