[ translate ]

Desk designed by Giò Ponti for the Torre Pirelli skyscraper in Milan. Produced by Rima, 1960. This is the first modern Italian desk to abandon the previous canons of office furniture made first of wood and then of steel in imitation of wood, to find new slender and light lines in office furniture design. Giò Ponti wrote about the furniture designed for the Pirelli Tower: "Do you remember the steel furniture? American desks inflated like American cars. . . . . . Remember the metal office chairs with sections like wood? Maybe my research through the Rima desk was worth something'. The lot at auction is in excellent condition. The desk has been restored in a conservative manner retaining the original patina. The wooden parts are made of Afromosia walnut and the drawers are made of Bakelite. The desk is equipped with a drawer unit positioned on the right, which can also be dismantled and placed on the left-hand side of the piece. High-quality construction details: the structure is equipped with positioning adjusters to compensate for any unevenness in the floor and to ensure that the four feet are always firmly on the ground. Rima logo engraved on metal frame. (The key to lock the drawers is missing) Desk size: Height: 76. 5 Width: 80 Length: 170 cm 'Design Radicale' offers insured shipping to Italy and Europe. Shipping costs as indicated. For shipping to the rest of the world, the cost is approximate. We will provide a quote when the auction is finished, depending on the destination.
