[ translate ]

Giorgio de Chirico
1888 - 1978
Uomo ferito che cade da cavallo (Injured Man Falling from his Horse)

signed g. de Chirico (lower right)
oil on canvas
51 by 61.2cm., 20⅛ by 24⅛ in.
Framed: 62.6 by 73.7cm., 24⅝ by 29in.
Painted in 1937-38.

Condition Report:
The canvas is not lined. Inspection under UV light reveals a small spot of retouching to the horse's proper right hind leg, which relates to a tiny paint loss and some areas of fluorescence to the sky and to the right of the boat figures which appear to be part of the artist's working process. There are some fine lines of craquelure, slightly raised in places and some paint shrinkage to some of the black pigments. There is some wear to the centre of the extreme upper edge. This work is in overall good condition.

Provenance:
Alex Reid & Lefevre, Ltd., London
Private Collection, London
Private Collection, United Kingdom (sold: Sotheby's, London, 23rd March 1994, lot 24)
Purchased at the above sale by the present owner
