Rare and scarce Italian treatise on contagious diseases and epidemics. After the plague of Naples in 1656-57, there was a wave of medical treatises printed in Italy. Of particular note were Athanasius Kircher's "Scrutinium physico-medicum contagiosae luis quae dicitur pestis" in Rome in 1658 and Tommaso Cornelio's "Progumnasmata physica" in 1663. Only with the forced quarantine of the poorest districts and the extraordinary efforts of Martinus Ludheim was the bubonic plague eradicated in the Kingdom.
