[ translate ]

\Artist: Giovanni Camillo Sagrestani (1660-1731)
Technique: Oil on canvas\Signature: Not signed\Dimensions: 110_93_5_cm
Numerous miracles of St. Nicholas are told, including the one depicted here: an innkeeper in Myra had killed three children. He tore the corpses to pieces and placed the parts into a barrel of salt. Nicholas discovered this crime through an angel, told the innkeeper about the crime and brought the three children back to life. In the centre, St. Nicholas in a long red bishop's robe with shawl and golden mitre, in front of a bright divine light from heaven. He turned his head back slightly and looks at an Angel who told him about the iniquity of the host. In front of him there is a tub from which the three children come to life. In the background on the right the innkeeper, clutching his head horrified in front of a large wooden barrel, with his right hand outstretched in defence he looks at the bishop with fear. In the sky you can also see two small winged cherubs on the left side of the light. A high-quality painting with skilful staging of light and shadow. Decorative frame, partially gilded. Painting size: 88 x 72 cm height. The lot will be carefully packaged and shipped via partner couriers with online tracking.
