Mixed media on paper depicting a panoramic mountain view with village, signed on bottom left and stamped on the back with the name “Giuseppe Casciaro”. Famous painter and teacher born in Ortelle in the province of Lecce in 1863 and deceased in Naples in 1941, he left his studies to follow the drawing classes of "Paolo Emilio Stasi" who, impressed by the talent of the boy, directed him to the Institute of Fine Arts of Naples under the guidance of "Gioacchino Toma" and the sculptor "Stanislao Lista". He later moved on to the art studios of "Domenico Morelli" , participated in the Neapolitan exhibition "Salvator Rosa" presenting works with his favourite technique, that of pastel, in time he was considered among the best Italian pastel artists, but without ever leaving the oil technique. He devoted himself mainly to the illustrations of Campania and Puglia landscapes, boasting friendships with painters such as: Attilio Pratella, Edoardo Dalbono. Francesco Paolo Michetti, Francesco Mancini, etc. He exhibited his works mainly around Italy but also abroad, reaching as far as Paris, becoming an honorary professor of the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples, Urbino and Bologna. He was also a great collector, in his private collection he kept works of "Antonio Canova and "Giovanni Fattori", a collection unfortunately lost. Painting in good condition, even though there are signs of wear art the edges (as pictured) caused by the frame that covered those areas. We offer to the buyer a complimentary coeval frame, not included in the photos because it is in poor condition and needs to be restored. We therefore do not accept complaints regarding the gifted frame.
