Magnificent seventeenth-century oil on canvas from Siena, the work of Giuseppe Casolani (Siena 1633-1670) accompanied by the expertise of Professor. Marco Ciampolini, a leading expert on painting in Siena in the 17th century. The canvas depicts Santa Margherita da Cortona in adoration of the Crucifix and measures 58. 5 x 72. 5 cm. In good condition, it has been relined and professionally restored in recent times. Some peeling of the colour, especially in the background. Otherwise absolutely enjoyable. The work has been auctioned among antique paintings by Pandolfini on March 3, 2020.
