[ translate ]

Giorgio Sommer (1834–1914) was one of Europe’s most important and prolific photographers of the 19th century.

This collection of 120 Magic Lantern Slides features stunning black and white images from the mid 19th century. The set is particularly interesting for its depiction of Italy from around 1870s, offering a unique and rare insight into this fascinating period of history. The images provide a fascinating glimpse into a bygone era, and would make a great addition to any collection of photographic images or collectables. The slides feature historic landmarks in Italy as well as archeological ruins, landscapes and art objects. The slides come in the original wooden box.

The slides are ca 80mm by 80mm in size, a very common size found in the UK, and composed of two sheets of glass, one bearing the image and the other a cover which protects the image. The two layers are kept together by a strip of black paper tape around the edges and labelled with the number. Most of the slides are in very good condition, only a couple of them have imperfections and small cracks to the glass which can be fixed.
