Gottfried Salzmann studierte an der Akademie der bildenden Künste in Wien bei Sergius Pauser und Maximilian Melcher, danach an der École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris. Salzmann lebt und arbeitet in Frankreich und ist einer der meistausgestellten österreichischen Gegenwartskünstler. Ein Charakteristikum von Salzmanns Arbeiten ist der erhöhte Blickpunkt. Der Blick aus der Luft ermöglicht dem Künstler die Wahrnehmung der Städte in ihrer Weite und großen Form und lässt ein summarisches und abstrahiertes Erfassen des Gesehenen zu.
