Govert Heikoop (1951-2007) - Shelter
\Artist: Govert Heikoop (1951-2007)
Technique: Houtsculptuur\Signature: Hand signed
Goof (we were an artist couple for 32 years) was not only always inspired to make new work but could also build what he had in mind. From simple objects to brilliant constructions. In this sculpture the aircraft plywood was attached to a wooden structure and temporarily secured with staples during the drying of the glue. Then he ran upstairs to quickly pull out the staples or they would be stuck! The surface is sanded aircraft plywood that has a dark inner layer. This sanding has given the image a 'skin'. Patterns in animal skins fascinated Goof. Originally the skin of a sculpture has always remained surface to do something on or with, as a painter does on his canvas. Claire Begheyn MFA
