Hard boards, original blind decorated cloth; gold decorated spine [spine fade, spine ends and cloth wear, bumped board corners]; 4" x 6.1/4"; antique label inside front cover, woodcut frontispiece with tissue guard; 175 pages + 5 woodcut plates, some soiling and foxing, good condition.

"In the following Story an attempt is made to assist religious parents in impressing the important truth on the minds of their children, that this life is only a portion of time, short and rapid in its progress, in which the "one thing needful," is to prepare for the eternity which shall follow..." [from the Preface]

Grace Kennedy (1782-1825) was a Scottish writer. She was born at Pinmore in Ayrshire, but at an early age moved to Edinburgh. She wrote novels of a religious tendency which were very popular in their day. A collection of her works in six volumes appeared at Edinburgh in 1827, and a German translation of them, in Bielefeld in 1838 and another one in 1842.
