Graeco-Phoenician Silver Pendant with Kore
5th century BC. A silver pendant representing a standing Kore, dressed in long chiton; dotted border and ribbed suspension loop. See the upper part of a similar pendant in Pisano Quattrocchi, G., I gioielli Fenici di Tharros nel Museo Nazionale di Cagliari, Rome, 1974, no.135. 2.05 grams, 45mm (1 3/4"). Property of a gentleman from Vienna; from his private collection; previously acquired in Munich, Germany, between 1992 and 1996. These votive pendants were produced using embossing or lamination techniques. To prevent breakages during the embossing process, the metallic foil was placed on a layer of pitch or wood, sometimes lead. [No Reserve]
