Graf Von Faber - Fountain pen

A secret art of an original aesthetic
Looking at the 2010 Special Edition, one is fascinated by the interaction between the delicate engravings and the elegant marbled steel parts.

Until the end of the 19th century, marbled steel was a sign of the high quality of a weapon, given the inimitable shine it provided. For centuries this process was transmitted orally and kept in jealous secrecy.

The metal surfaces were hardened through the use of charred leather, generating changing shades of color as they cooled. To date, it has been found that up to 20 parameters contribute to generating this surprising visual effect, including the thickness of the metal, the temperature and the cooling speed.

changing shades of color
Extensive experience in craft work can influence the results, but never anticipate them precisely. Therefore, no two marbled metals are completely alike.

The metal surface is perfected according to an elaborate engraving process framed by 24K gold inlays. Today, very few workshops can combine these traditional arts with the mastery required by the 2010 Special Edition.

Before tempering the steel, the pen of the year is engraved using an artisanal process. The engraver hand chisels the dovetail guide into which he inserts the gold inlay for subsequent polishing. A final result that requires great skill and precision for its perfection

a precious wood
There is another reason why walnut produces one of the highest quality woods.

It is not enough to cut down the trees, but the stumps must be removed, because the wood with the best grain is found in the deepest roots. This elaborate process is only used for walnut wood. Walnut has always generated an aura of mystery. Its majestic bearing and prolific harvest have meant it has always been associated with royalty and fertility.
The fountain pen is presented in a fine wooden box with an elegant brochure and a certificate attesting to the limited edition.
The aesthetic appeal of some historic hunting rifles was a source of inspiration for the creation of the 2010 Pen of the Year which combines the secret craftsmanship of bluing, engraving and gold inlay with the beautiful Caucasian walnut wood. Platinum-plated metal parts and an 18-karat two-tone gold nib, carefully "rhodium-plated" by hand, complete this limited edition.
