"Graham's Lady's and Gentleman's Magazine, Embellished with Mezzotint and Steel Engravings, Music, etc." Volume XXIV January - June, 1844 and Volume XXV July - December, 1844, bound together, published by George R. Graham, Philadelphia. Complete all 12 issues, 296 + 296 pages, + 34 mezzotint and steel engraved plates on heavy stock paper.

Contributors to this magazine include some of America's most famous authors such as James Fenimore Cooper, Henry W. Longfellow, and William Bryant. Most notably, these compilations contain the first appearances of several stories and poems including Edgar Allan Poe's works.

"Graham's Magazine" was a nineteenth-century periodical based in Philadelphia established by George Rex Graham and published from 1841 to 1858. Publishing short stories, critical reviews, and music as well as information on fashion, Graham intended the journal to reach all audiences including both men and women. He offered the high payment of $5 per page, successfully attracting some of the best-known writers of the day. It also became known for its engravings and artwork. Graham's may have been the first magazine in the United States to copyright each issue.

1. Joseph C. Neal [1807-1847]. American journalist, humorist and author. NEAL has acquired a very extensive reputation through his "Charcoal Sketches," a series of papers originally written for the "Saturday News,", and afterwards published in book form, with illustrations by Johnston.

2. Nathaniel Parker Willis (1806-1867), also known as N.P. Willis, [the signature appears authentic] was an American author, poet and editor who worked with several notable American writers including Edgar Allan Poe and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. He became the highest-paid magazine writer of his day. His brother was the composer Richard Storrs Willis

3. Portrait of R.T. Conrad, full length, seated, engraved by Richard W. Dodson (American, 1812-1867); After a portrait by Stanley Thomas Williams (1888-1956) Robert Taylor Conrad (1810-1858), an American jurist and dramatist.

4. James Fenimore Cooper; from the original picture by G. Blanchard, engraved by Richard W. Dodson (American, 1812-1867).

J.F. Cooper was an American writer of the first half of the 19th century. His historical romances depicting frontier and Native American life from the 17th to the 19th centuries created a unique form of American literature. Several of his novels, including "The Last of the Mohicans", were made into movies.

6. Rev. Walter Colton (1797-1851) from a daguerreotype by W. & F. Langenheim, engraved by G. Parker.

Rev. Walter Colton was a Chaplain for the United States Navy, the Alcalde of Monterey, and the author of "Three Years in California" and "Deck and Port". He was also co-publisher of California's first newspaper, "The Californian".
