"The History of the Rise and Progress of the United States of North America, Till the British Revolution in 1688" Complete In Two Volumes by James Grahame, published by Longman, Rees, Orme, Brown and Green, London, 1833.

Hard boards, dark-blue cloth, gold lettering and white numbers on spines; 5.1/2" x 8.1/2"; 531 + 527 pages; discarded library books with stamps and pockets inside back-covers, very good condition.

James Grahame (1790-1842) was Scottish historian. He studied at the universities of Glasgow and Cambridge. He was called to the Bar in Scotland in 1812 but ill health prevented him from pursuing a career in law and he turned to the study of history.

Grahame's works on the American History initially had little impact in the United States but eventually their merit was recognized. Josiah Quincy published 'The Memory of the Late James Grahame, the Historian of the United States, Vindicated from the Charges of Mr Bancroft' (1846).
