Grand Tour patinated bronze statue of the Roman goddess Ceres (Demeter), after the antique, modeled holding a wheat in one hand and a scythe in the other, unsigned, on marble square base. 9.25” H x 3.5” W x 3” D. Provenance: Property from a private residence at the Pierre Hotel. Ceres is revered as the Goddess of agriculture, fertility, grains, the harvest, motherhood, the earth, and cultivated crops.
